Read More Welcome to York Rouleurs York Rouleurs Cycling Club (YRCC) is a friendly cycling club based in York, North Yorkshire. Twitter Facebook Instagram About YRCC Established in 2014, York Rouleurs Cycling Club is a friendly British Cycling-affiliated club aimed at encouraging group cycling for those based in and around York, North Yorkshire. Initially conceived as an alternative to riding alone, we provide individuals with a time and place to meet, and the added security of the company of experienced group cyclists. Our weekly rides regularly attract up to 20 riders, all passionate about road cycling and with varying experience and ability. We also have an active social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and our website Forum, which acts as our virtual clubhouse and allows our members to help shape our club. Cycling is a great way to meet new people and we arrange regular social activities around our cycling events! If you wish to take part in the weekly ‘Club Run’, simply turn up at 9am on a Sunday** at our meeting point: Currently the Re-cycling Centre at Askham Bar Tesco, YO24 1LW. We welcome new riders to join us as a guest for up to three rides. After that, you can join via York Rouleurs on British Cycling. How far and how fast do you ride? Rides are between 30 and 40 miles in length, at an average speed of between 15-18mph. We conclude our rides with a coffee stop at a local cafe. What do I need to bring with me? As with any ride, make sure you carry the essentials, including a couple of inner tubes, tyre levers, a mini pump, a multi-tool and money for the cafe stop. Dress for the conditions and make sure you have enough food and liquid to see you through the ride. What if I’ve never ridden in a group before? You can read our Club Run Etiquette Guide, and Code of Conduct, but the best thing to do is just come along and learn from how other people ride. How do I post to the forum? What else do I need to know? York Rouleurs membership is open to all those over the age of 16, deemed ‘adults’ with British Cycling. We have members, men and women, of all ages and all fitness levels, who enjoy riding socially to improve their physical wellbeing. Ollie Butterwick Chairman & Welfare Officer The role of the Chairperson is to oversee the business of the meeting and to keep order among members. They have overall control, giving direction, keeping focus and giving structure. Their ultimate responsibility is to take decisions on behalf of the committee following consultation with its members. The Club Welfare Officer’s role is to promote the club/organisation’s policy and procedures for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. Duties Chair committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting. Ensure appropriate documents, including minutes are available for committee members. Ensure that committee members are aware of their roles and responsibilities. Act as the ambassador and/or spokesperson for the club. May be called upon to act as mediator. The distribution/display of leaflets and codes of conduct to members, parents and young people. Advise on the development of activities for young people within the club/organisation. Support the registration of all personnel involved in activities for young people within the club/organisation (CRB checks). Receive, record and pass on to the British Cycling Child Protection Officer, any concerns relating to the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults. Attend committee meetings. This is a pivotal role in which the Secretary carries out, or delegates all of the administrative duties that enables the club and its members to function effectively. Taking and distributing minutes of meetings. Keeping records. Liaising with members, post holders and external agencies. Duties Get to know all club volunteers and potential volunteers. Ensure that all existing and potential volunteers have access to role descriptions. Signpost volunteers to relevant training. Coordinate the recruitment, training and support plans. Recognise and nominate your volunteers for volunteer awards. Report on the volunteer status at committee meetings and annual general meetings. Contact @DanielMackley Lewis Ridley Club Treasurer The role of the Treasurer is to oversee the finances of the club and to report on the income and expenditure at committee meetings and the club’s AGM. Duties Managing all income and expenditure, including banking arrangements. Managing legal requirements such as taxation and charitable status. Reports regularly to the committee/chairperson on the club’s financial status. Prepares/presents audited financial year end report to annual general meeting. Financial planning, budgeting and monitoring throughout the year. David Marshall Special Events & Sportives The role of the Special Events & Sportives Coordinator is to be the contact point within the club regarding additional cycling events, beyond the normal club runs. Coordinate, delegate and plan events to match interests within the membership, and to encourage involvement at all levels and disciplines. Duties Plan a programme of special events & sportives. Maintain contact and relationships with other suitable local clubs with similar interests. Be interested in participating or have taken part in special events & sportives. Provide information on local and regional special events & sportives within all competitive disciplines, as necessary, to Club members. Stimulate cycle interests and development. Have knowledge of the clubs riding culture and aspirations. Know where to access special events & sportives information, regulations and rules, along with access to event organisation and volunteer requirements. Find volunteers and event organisers within the club along with the coordination and delegation of responsibilities for special events & sportives. They also work with the site’s content producers, determining the type, quality and quantity of content needed for the website in order to ensure it caters to the needs of the target audience. There is also some healthy (but sensible) competition for certain segments. We also have a Garmin group which is for members only.
